MGS2: Digital Graphic Novel Release Date [Update]

Saturday March 22nd, 2008 by Walleye

According to Amazon.co.uk, Metal Gear Solid 2: Digital Graphic Novel is to be released on March 30th 2008. With no official word from Konami anywhere in sight, it is unknown if this release date is anywhere near accurate.

"METAL GEAR SOLID 2: DIGITAL GRAPHIC NOVEL (PSP) (2008) (Sony PSP)
Buy new: £14.99
Available for pre-order. This item will be released on 30 Mar 2008.
Eligible for FREE Super Saver Delivery."

The Digital Graphic Novel for MGS2 has been largely forgotten about since it was announced, with only the Japanese version getting any attention. Even then, hardly any news had surfaced after the initial announcements.

Until there is official word from Konami, I'd take this date with a grain of salt.

Update: It's pretty safe to say Amazon pulled this date out of nowhere, I have just been to check the listing for DGN2 and it has been updated. It now says:

"METAL GEAR SOLID 2: DIGITAL GRAPHIC NOVEL (PSP) (2008) (Sony PSP)
Buy new: £14.99 £12.99
You save: £2.00 (13%)
Not in stock; order now and we'll deliver when available.
Eligible for FREE Super Saver Delivery."

The Japanese MGS4 teaser site has been updated with details on the 2 MGS4 packages and the PS3 Bundle. Also revealed are 2 new items. MGS4 themed headphones, and a Dual Shock 3 charger bearing the MGS4 logo.

I’ll try and get more details on these items as they emerge.

MPO+ PAL Release Date

Sunday March 16th, 2008 by Walleye

Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus, much like it’s predecessor (Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops) has been subjected to a rather lengthy and equally pointless delay. The original, released in December 2006 in America, never saw the light of day in Europe until May 2007. To make up for this, Kojima Productions added in some exclusive features into the game. These included new soldiers, decorated with the flags of various European countries, 2 new single player maps were accessible for online play, new careers for soldiers were added in, as well as additional side missions and a Boss Rush mode. Many fans agree that these additional features didn’t justify, or in any way make up for the delay.

Then came the announcement of Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops Plus. An online focused expansion to MPO. With no story elements, the game was entirely aimed at improving the online experience in preparation for Metal Gear Online, for the PlayStation 3. MPO+ took the additions of the European MPO, and made them available to the rest of the world, as well as adding a whole host of new characters, weapons and even more maps, as well as a new single player mode. MPO+ landed on shelves in Japan on September 30th 2007, in America on November 13th 2007 and then was forgotten about.

Now, it seems MPO+ is ready to be unleashed on Europe. The originally named British gaming store “GAME” are making a rather big fuss about MPO+. They, along with several other websites, have MPO+ listed with a release date of March 28th 2008. Although not officially announced by Konami (as far as I am aware), plenty of big name sites (such as IGN.com, for example) are running with this date. Another interesting point to be made, is that IGN.com has a separate release date for Australia. Apparently the Aussies have to wait a little longer and won’t be getting MPO+ until April 4th 2008.

As it stands, it is unknown why the game has taken so long to reach Europe. It is also unknown if the PAL version of the game contains any additional features.
