Peace Walker UK Launch Report

Friday June 18th, 2010 by Walleye

June 18th - A day I have waited for since E3 2009 when Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker was first announced was now upon me. I woke up around 7AM, dragged my still half asleep body around the house to get ready and had breakfast. I left the house at 9:30AM and took a short drive to the train station to catch my 9:58AM train into London Liverpool Street. From here I took the Underground to London St. Pancras to meet Ste, a long-time online friend and MGO comrade, and then together we got on the Underground to Oxford Circus.

Arriving at the HMV Store on Oxford Street came with mixed emotions. I knew I was close to buying the game I'd been waiting a year for, but I also knew my plan of arriving four and a half hours before the scheduled event time to get in the queue as it was forming had backfired. Knowing there was already a large crowd lined up outside the store, I took a few photos for the blog and ventured inside to purchase a copy of Peace Walker.

With our copies of the game secured, Ste and I left the store to join the queue outside. We were waved down by another online friend and MGO comrade, Jateen. After failing to meet us at St. Pancras Station, Jateen had informed us that the queue was already forming and he was already in it and quite near the front. So with minimal fuss, Ste and I slipped into the queue ahead of a lot of people who had beaten us there. The hours that followed would be spent talking amongst ourselves while being slowly shifted forward every half hour or so. Eventually, we made it inside the store and were herded into the set up containment area where we waited for Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa to arrive.

Shortly after 4PM, Hideo Kojima and Yoji Shinkawa emerged from a fire exit and took their places on the stage. Greeted by chants of "KO-JI-MA" and a sea of camera flashes, the two waved to fans before taking their seats and the signing began. While we waited for our turn to go up, we were treated to the usual HMV music being replaced with the "Metal Gear Solid Main Theme" and "Heavens Divide" tracks from the Peace Walker soundtrack.

With our signed copies of Peace Walker now secured, we decided to wander down the street to the UNIQLO store. The store was decorated with various Peace Walker posters and window stickers. They also had several Peace Walker t-shirts on display and a special bench set up with built in PSP systems so customers could play Peace Walker. After a very quick game, we headed out to get some food and then headed home.

All in all, a thoroughly enjoyable day.

What's New in Version 4.0?

Friday June 18th, 2010 by Walleye

Welcome to Version 4.0 of Metal Gear Collection.com. Here's a quick run down of the new features:

- New design inspired by Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
- Every single page has been rebuilt from the ground up.
- New multi-story news ticker.
- New internal blog system.

I'm also currently in the process of updating all of the item photos on the site to better quality and higher resolution images. This means a lot of items will be without pictures while I work on getting the new ones done. This was a neccessary action to take to avoid delaying the launch any further and stay within my own deadlines. If you wish to see pics of the items, they are all still available on the old version of the site. You can access it by clicking here.

If you spot any typos, errors or problems please feel free to contact me using the contact button in the top right-hand corner.

E3 2010

Tuesday June 15th, 2010 by Walleye

A quick round up of Metal Gear news from this years E3.

To get the ball rolling, Hideo Kojima appeared on stage at the Microsoft Conference to introduce Shigenobu Matsuyama who is the producer for Metal Gear Solid: Rising. He explained a little about the direction he wanted to go with Rising and introduced the world to the concept of "Zan-Datsu," which means "slash and take." Following this was a brand new trailer for Metal Gear Solid: Rising.

At the Nintendo conference it was announced that Konami would be bringing the Metal Gear Solid franchise to the Nintendo 3DS. Shortly afterwards the Kojima Productions Special E3 site updated announcing "Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D." This looks like nothing more than a remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater running on the Peace Walker engine with updated character models.

Rising Artwork Leaked on Xbox Live Marketplace

Thursday June 10th, 2010 by Walleye

New artwork for Metal Gear Solid: Rising has been leaked on the Xbox Live Marketplace just days before E3.

At last year's event, Konami unveiled the new title and stated that no new details would be revealed until E3 2010, which starts on June 15th and lasts until June 17th.

This artwork is likely to be simply a placeholder image and not the final box art.
