Collection Update #3 [Update]

Wednesday February 27th, 2008 by Walleye

I've just logged into my emails and been given a rather pleasant surprise.

Play-Asia have shipped my Medicom Ultra Detail Figures of Masked Old Snake and Raiden. I suspect it may be a few weeks before they arrive, but it’s a relief to know they won’t be subjected to any more delays.

As always, pics will be taken and uploaded to the site as soon as the figures arrive.

Update: A lot sooner than expected, my UDFs have arrived.

MGS4 Gets Release Date + MGO Details [Update]

Tuesday February 26th, 2008 by Walleye

Appearing around the internet recently was a photo of a suspected advert for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots from the Japanese Magazine "Famitsu." The most interesting thing about the picture, is that it shows the release date for the game as being June 12th 2008.

Gaming blog site Kotaku reported today that MGS4 will be included in a new bundle pack with an 80GB PlayStation 3 console and a DualShock 3 Wireless controller. The release for the bundle pack is also slated as June 12th.

On top of this, the US PlayStation.com Blog confirms the details of the bundle pack stating it’s due for a late Q2 release, coinciding with the MGS4 advert. The bundle is expected to cost around $500.

As an added bonus, the US PlayStation.com Blog states that customers who pre-order Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots will gain access to an early beta of the online companion to MGS4, Metal Gear Online, due to start in April.

Sadly, none of this applies to Europe. The details of the European release of MGS4 are virtually non-existent.

Update: Details are starting to emerge about the 3 MGS4 packages which are due for release:

- The Standard release of MGS4 has no additional items.
- The Collector's Edition comes with an additional "making of" disc.
- The PS3 Dualshock 3 Bundle comes with the collector's edition of MGS4, and a special MGS4 themed PS3, which is to be revealed March 21st.

As well as this, new details have surfaced about Metal Gear Online. The starter pack which is bundled with MGS4 includes 5 maps, some which are new and it’s assumed that some are from previous games. Expansion packs (released as PSN downloads) will add new characters and maps into the game. Pricing and a release schedule for the expansions will be released at a later date.

And if that wasn’t enough, MGO gets a second beta testing session in Japan. There’s no need to pre-order the game to be able to take part either. Applications for the beta are open from February 29th – May 5th and the beta will be open from April 21st – May 6th.

Medicom UDFs Delayed... Again

Friday February 22nd, 2008 by Walleye

The Medicom Ultra Detail Figures created for the 20th Metal Gear Anniversary have been subjected to yet another delay on release.

Initially marked for a January release, the figures were pushed back to February. Now it seems we won’t see the figures until March, at the earliest.

Play-Asia’s listings for the figures state they will be in stock in March, 2008. Order information still claims the estimated shipping date is on or before January 30, 2008.

I can only hope these figures see the light of day soon.

MGS @ Toy Fair 2008

Monday February 18th, 2008 by Walleye

The Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York City plays host to the 2008 Toy Fair. Kicking off on February 17th and lasting until the 20th, the fair will feature all the latest and most highly anticipated toys, games and figures that are due for release this year.

Among the exhibitors at this years event were Medicom, bringing with them a variety of Metal Gear products. Most importantly, on display were the Ultra Detail Figures which I had previously reported as being delayed. Judging from the photos, it looks to me like the figures are ready to hit shelves. The adjusted release dates might have been accurate after all.

Also on display were some surprising "stealth" variant figures of Solid Snake and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty. These variant figures were not known about until the event, although many could have guessed some would have been made considering the stealth variants of Solid Snake and Ninja in the recently released Medicom Kubrick series. The variants are identical to their normal counterparts, except made entirely out of clear plastic, accessories included.

Medicom RAH Packaging Revealed

Thursday February 14th, 2008 by Walleye

Announced quite some time ago were the 12″ Medicom figures of Old Snake and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots as part of the “Real Action Heroes” series.

The figures themselves are highly detailed to the point where actual fabric is used on Old Snake’s tactical vest. They do however come with quite a large price tag, retailing at around £90 – £100 (+ shipping).

Revealed recently is the packaging that these figures will be released in, and I must say, it is a very nice looking package. The pictures have appeared over at Play-Asia.

I can only hope the UDF packaging looks this good.

Visual Issues [Update 2]

Tuesday February 12th, 2008 by Walleye

After slaving away like no one's business all day yesterday getting this blog set up, it seems there are a few issues with it. These issues are kind of hard to resolve, as they seem only to occur with a screen resolution higher than my own.

Anyone viewing the blog with a resolution higher than 1024 x 768 will probably notice that, for some reason, the background image repeats and a 3rd shadow is placed on the page. This also causes the page to stretch leaving the original 2 shadows a long way away from the header image.

Anyone using Mozilla Firefox to browse the blog may also notice that the header image is out of alignment by 2 pixels or so. There is also a slight issue with the footer in Firefox and Internet Explorer, leaving it slightly out of alignment by one pixel.

I am working to get these issues fixed as soon as possible, but I’m working with extremely limited knowledge. If you notice any other issues, or are running a higher resolution, please use the comments section to report issues or assist me by informing me if the issues have been fixed.

Update: Background issues are all fixed, however there is now a problem with the comment input boxes. Again, I am working to get this resolved.

Update: I decided to take the long winded approach and revert to the default theme and re-build it from scratch. I can now happily report that all issues have now been fixed and things should be running smoothly again.

Medicom UDFs Delayed [Update]

Monday February 11th, 2008 by Walleye

To celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Metal Gear, Medicom announced a series of 5 special Metal Gear Solid figures in their "Ultra Detail Figure" range. These figures include Old Snake from Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, both Masked and Unmasked, Solid Snake and Raiden from Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty, and Naked Snake from Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater.

These figures have been available for pre-order at Play-Asia for quite a while, listed with an estimated release date of January 2008. This date has recently been changed to February 2008. Order information still states that the figures will be dispatched either before or on January 30th.

Fellow Asian Import site, Yes-Asia, has the figures listed with an estimated release date of February 28th. Whether this date is accurate remains to be seen.

Update: "Dr.Stormlocke" from the forums at MGS:TUS informs me that Amazon Japan have the UDF figures with an estimated released date of February 25th, after having it previously listed as January 25th. All estimates seems to be around the mid – late 20's for this month. Fingers crossed one of them might actually be accurate.
