A birthday gift finds a space in the collection!

After my brother got in from work, we decided to order a pizza to celebrate my birthday. When it arrived, I took it upstairs to find a copy of Metal Gear Solid on PC sitting on my shelf waiting for me.

MGS on PC is becoming increasingly difficult to find and whenever it does pop up, 9 times out of ten it is missing the original “big box” packaging and is being sold as just a small CD case and instruction manual. Given the amount of shelf space the big box takes up, most owners would normally just throw the box away. The example I now have still has the big box and is in almost pristine condition, still carrying all the original leaflets and adorned with most, if not all, of the original store stickers on both the box, and the CD case.

Pics and more details are available on the item page.

It’s been a while but finally, a new addition!

Arriving in the post this morning was a factory sealed copy of the limited edition, 2 disc, Japanese version of the Metal Gear Solid 4:Guns of the Patriots soundtrack.

FOXHOUNDER, a good friend and long-time MGO teammate had a copy of the soundtrack, and decided he didn’t want it anymore. Unexpectedly, he offered to give me his copy rather than sell it on. So a massive thanks to him.

Pictures and details are on the item page.

Metal Gear @ E3 2009

June 2nd, 2009

It’s E3 time again and Kojima makes a rather shocking announcement.

Appearing during yesterdays Microsoft conference, Hideo Kojima announces that the next game in the Metal Gear Series will be called “Metal Gear Solid: Rising” and will be appearing on the XBOX 360. Immediate speculation was that the game was a 360 exclusive title, but Rising was later confirmed for both PS3 and PC.

Further deatils about the game are unknown at this time. All we know, is that it stars Raiden.

Sony’s Keynote rolled around and the PSP GO! was officially unveiled. One of the games announced to be heading for PSP was “Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker”. Starring Big Boss, Peace Walker is set in 1974. Ten years after Operation Snake Eater and 2 years after the Les Enfants Terribles Project. Peace in Costa Rica is under threat, and so the country without a military calls on the army without a government. A mysterious group of unknow soldiers calling themselves “Militaires Sans Frontieres” who would later be known as the founders of Outer Heaven.

Hideo Kojima appeared on the stage and unveiled this new exclusive to PSP title through a trailer. More information, screenshots and the trailer itself can be found at Kojima Productions’ E3 2009 site.

With Konami’s Keynote due to begin later this evening, will more details about these 2 games be revealed, and what is the mysterious secret behind the “MASK” teaser site?

A set completing addition!

It’s been 11 years, but I finally managed to complete the set of regular McFarlane MGS1 figures with the arrival of Psycho Mantis. However, I don’t yet have any of the stealth figures. At the moment though, these are pretty low on my priorities list.

Psycho Mantis has been added to “FIGURE”, “LATEST ADDITIONS” and “SITEMAP”.

Collection Update

April 22nd, 2009

Finally, a January Pre-Order has arrived!

13 days into a new year, I was browsing my usual sites looking for anything interesting that was Metal Gear related when I happened upon a brand new artbook. Seeing that it was at a really cheap price for an MGS artbook and due for release in February, I decided to pre-order “Ashley Wood’s Art of Metal Gear Solid”.

Two failed release dates and several phone calls to Forbidden Planet later, and here it is.

Ashley Wood’s Art of Metal Gear Solid has been added to “PRINT”, “LATEST ADDITIONS” and “SITEMAP”.

Another item to add today!

Arriving this morning was a US copy of MGS4 that I recently managed to pick up for a fairly cheap price. I’ve been trying to track this down for a while. Not only to add it to the collection, but so I can also play MGO with my American friends. However, I may have also found a good deal on a Limited Edition version of US MGS4. I don’t see much point in having both the standard and limited edition versions, so I will probably be selling this copy eventually.

MGS4 has been added to “GAME”, “LATEST ADDITIONS” and “SITEMAP”.

Medicom Updates

February 27th, 2009

New details have emerged about Medicom’s latest line up of MGS figures.

After the unveiling of new range of figures at the New York Comic Convention details were scarce. However, Medicom have recently updated their official site with new details.

Firstly, the kubricks have all been named and detailed. Listed below are the details I can know share with you about them:

OLD SNAKE Octocamo Facemask ver. [MGS4]
Octocamo Facemask Old Snake comes with the same body as the Old Snake Kubrick from the previous 20th Anniversary line and also features the same SOPMOD M4 Assault Rifle Accessory. The differences between this Old Snake and the last one is, obviously, a new head and the Octocamo Facemask version comes with a khaki vest, instead of a black one.

SOLIDUS SNAKE [MGS2]
Solidus Snake is an entirely new Kubrick featuring Solidus’ appearance during the first phase of the final battle atop Federal Hall, with twin tentacles on his powered suit and carrying twin katanas.

LIQUID OCELOT [MGS4]
Another all new Kubrick. Liquid Ocelot comes with a syringe used for nanomachine suppression.

LIQUID SNAKE [MGS]
Liquid comes dressed in his trademark FOXHOUND trench coat. He has no accessories.

IROQUOIS PLISKIN [MGS2]
Snake’s Alter-Ego comes in full Navy Seal gear and carries an M4 Assault Rifle.

PMC SOLIDER [MGS4]
Dressed in full Praying Mantis PMC Gear, this kubrick carries a miniature MK.17 Assault Rifle.

Moving onto the UDFs now:

OLD SNAKE “Ready” [MGS4]
Posed in a crouching position as seen at the start of MGS4, Old Snake carries an AK-102 Assault Rifle. If the previous Old Snake UDFs are anything to go by, the stun knife will also be included as a removable item and shouldn’t be fixed in it’s casing on Snake’s lower back.

RAIDEN [MGS4]
Ninja Raiden comes with his now trademark scout knife and sword. It is unknown if his visor and dual Solid Eye systems can be moved.

VAMP [MGS4]
Vamp comes with his trademark knife and most likely several other throwing knives stored on his arms and leg holsters. Whether these knives are moulded or can be removed remains to be seen.

NAKED SNAKE ”Tiger Camo” [MGS3]
Judging from the pics, Naked Snake comes with the same accessories as the previous Naked Snake UDF. A CQC knife, Survival Knife and an M1911A1 Handgun. It’s unknown if a suppressor is included, but I see no reason why it wouldn’t be.

THE BOSS [MGS3]
The Boss comes complete with CQC Knife and Patriot Machine Gun.

Now, all of that would have already been obvious if you had read the previous news post regarding these figures. However, there’s another figure listed on the Medicom site that wasn’t at the New York Comic Convention.

When I was first shown pictures of this figure on Yahoo Japan Auctions, I assumed it was a custom repaint of already existing figures with a new outfit made for it. However, having seen the same figure listed on Medicom’s site I now know it’s a new figure.

The figure in question is a new Naked Snake Real Action Hero. It’s much like the other 3 versions of this figure that Medicom released around the same time as MGS3 was launched, except this new figure seems to have a much more detailed and better painted head. Aside from that, it also comes dressed in the secret “Cold War” Camouflage uniform. The pictures on the site only show the figure as having a CQC Knife, Survival Knife and M1911A1 handgun with suppressor, but older versions have included an XM16E1 Assault Rifle as well, so who knows if this one will come with too.

Now for the best part. The site lists all of these figures with one thing in common. Among the text, I managed to spy “2009年9月発売予定”. Not being able to read any Japanese, but having some experience with picking dates out of blocks of Japanese text, I believe this means that all of these new figures are to be released in September of this year. If this is the case, that’s more or less perfect for me.

Another figure to add to the collection!

After going on a recent MGS1 blitz, there’s no end in sight just yet. I already had Solid Snake and Cyborg Ninja figures, managed to import Liquid, Ocelot and Raven and got a good deal on Meryl. Now after securing Sniper Wolf, all that remains is Mantis.

An interesting piece of info about the Sniper Wolf figure is that she seems to share alot of parts with Meryl. They both have the same hands and appear to have the same legs, except mirrored and with some minor sculpting differences.

Sniper Wolf has been added to “FIGURE”, “LASTEST ADDITIONS” and “SITEMAP”.
